Satara Webcam Goes Public!

The Satara webcam in the Kruger National Park is being opened to the public! This webcam overlooking the Satara waterhole has been a firm favorite with SANParks ‘virtual guests’ for the last year, as they've spent hours peering through this ‘window’ into the Kruger National Park, watching animals and birds come down to drink, bathe and graze.

“The Satara webcam is the next best thing to being there, you’re always waiting in anticipation for the next frame to upload as you never know what you will see next”, says forum moderator francoisd, “but be warned it can become very addictive”.

The Satara webcam was bought with funds raised exclusively by the SANParks forum members. This generous group of people contributes tirelessly to SANParks, sharing their time, enthusiasm, ideas and money with SANParks in so many ways and to support a number of important projects. As such, the camera was initially a forum privilege.

A year later however, to celebrate it's first birthday, the camera has been opened up to all SANParks site users, so they too can share in this privileged “peek” into the park, whether they are sitting at their desk in Joburg, sitting out a winter’s storm in the Netherlands, struggling to sleep in Boston, or learning about nature and our parks until they get the chance to actually visit them.

“Watching the Kruger the webcam means being there without being there” says Duques, a forum moderator from the Netherlands, “it’s my window to a wonderful world, and I think it’s great that it has been decided to make it so easily available on the site”.

SANParks has plans to host webcams in a number of parks, including Addo, Tsitsikamma and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, among others. Says e-commerce manager Nedret Saidova, “we’ve another webcam that should be up and running in Kruger very soon at Orpen. We’re delighted to be able to share our park in this way and wish everyone happy viewing”.
